چکیده

Compressive mechanical properties of low-density, open-cell Zr-based bulk metallic glass foams processed by the salt replication method are investigated as a function of relative density and pore size in the ranges 14–28% and 150–355 lm, respectively. Scaling behaviors for strength and stiffness are discussed in the context of models developed for conventional metal foams, and appropriate modifications presented where necessary. Deformation and damage features not addressed by such models are then discussed in terms of the unique conditions allowing ductility in amorphous metal foams. It is shown that despite a small number of brittle uniaxial strut failures, ductile deformation by strut bending predominates in the foams, with the result that all but the densest foam could be compressed to a nominal strain in the vicinity of 80% without macroscopic fracture. 2005 Acta Materialia Inc. Porous and Foamed Amorphous Metals Alan

This article reviews the state of the art in the field of porous amorphous metals by describing current processing techniques, mechanical properties, and potential applications. In addition to the reduction in density, the main benefit of introducing porosity in amorphous metals is the improvement in compressive ductility and energy absorption. This ductilizing effect is explained by: (1) shear...

DAMAGE AND PLASTICITY CONSTANTS OF CONVENTIONAL AND HIGH-STRENGTH CONCRETE PART II: STATISTICAL EQUATION DEVELOPMENT USING GENETIC PROGRAMMING

Several researchers have proved that the constitutive models of concrete based on combination of continuum damage and plasticity theories are able to reproduce the major aspects of concrete behavior. A problem of such damage-plasticity models is associated with the material constants which are needed to be determined before using the model. These constants are in fact the connectors of constitu...

FEM Implementation of the Coupled Elastoplastic/Damage Model: Failure Prediction of Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRPs) Composites

The coupled damage/plasticity model for meso-level which is ply-level in case of Uni-Directional (UD) Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRPs) is implemented. The mathematical formulations, particularly the plasticity part, are discussed in a comprehensive manner. The plastic potential is defined in effective stress space and the damage evolution is based on the theory of irreversible thermodynamics. T...

Research Article: Determination of genotoxic effects of aluminum on Cirrhinus mrigala and Ctenopharyngodon idella using comet assay and micronucleus test

Metals are the major pollutants in aquatic environment. A lot of research literature is available globally about accumulation of heavy metals in aquatic ecosystems as well as in different body organs of aquatic animals, especially fish. Heavy metals mainly generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) in aquatic animals that lead to oxidative stress production. ROS cause oxidative damage to different ...
